Garden Tips for 2017

The local group dedicated to helping people start and maintain their gardens, Alameda Backyard Growers (ABG), has a workshop to help “Start Your Gardening Year off Right” scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 7 to 8 p.m. Alameda gardeners Cynthia LaCroix and Linda Carloni will lead the session at Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2513 Blanding Ave.

At the interactive session local residents will learn how to plan a food garden and what steps to take in January and February. The group will dicuss when and how to do soil preparation, what and when to plant and tips for squeezing spring, summer and fall crops into a small patch. This workshop will be geared toward beginners.

Both speakers are members of the ABG board of directors. LaCroix is an Alameda native and hard-working fruit picker for Project Pick. Carloni is an Alameda County Master Gardener.
