Graduates of the Class of 2014 celebrate the receipt of their diplomas last Saturday, June 14, at Encinal High School. St. Joseph Notre Dame High School graduated on May 31 and Island High on Thursday, June 12.

Boller’s one of 117 original prints chosen

Alameda artist Bonnie Randall Boller’s “Evolving,” a clay monotype, was one of 117 original prints selected to become part of a permanent collection at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. 

Curator Katherine Blood selected the prints from the recently published book, California Society of Printmakers, 100 Years, 1913-2013. 

The Planning Board stopped short of recommending the city enact rent controls Monday, instead voting 4-3 to ask the City Council to consider setting up a task force to study whether people are being displaced by rising rents.

Perfect weather greeted those who visited Robert Crown Memorial State Beach to see plots of sand evolve into showpieces at the annual Alameda Sand Castle and Sand Sculpture Contest Saturday, June 7. In its 48th year, the free event’s sponsors were the Alameda Parks and Recreation Department (ARPD), East Bay Regional Park District, Bayview Women’s Club and Alameda Youth Committee.
