Free Meditation Classes Slated

A free Introduction to meditation class is open and available to the public each Monday now until Nov. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. Classes are held in Alameda at 1134-E Ballena Blvd., #8.

Students will learn a structured meditation method with a focused attention on the breath.  The method is derived from the Buddhist traditions of Thailand and will be taught by practitioner and teacher Chris Morray-Jones, who learned the practice in England three decades ago.

Although no magic pill, students  “generally find through their experience an enhanced capacity for happiness and quality of relationships with others,” said Morray-Jones. “By learning to direct our attention more skillfully, we begin to experience contentment, emotional stabilityc and mental clarity.  In turn this becomes a basis for wiser choices.”

Morray-Jones first encountered Buddhism as a student at the University of Manchester, U.K. He was later invited to teach the practice and has taught Samatha meditation in the United States for more than 20 years.
