Football Stars Play One Final Game

Three Encinal High football players participated in all-star games recently. Senior receiver Marques Singleton played in the Bay Area Cali Classic at Burrell Field in San Leandro on Jan. 28, while senior defensive backs Kenneth and Kyle Lorenzo played in the Bay Showcase at Tennyson High School.

“The practice was pretty fun,” said Singleton. “Meeting people from schools you’ve never even heard of [plus] some people from your 7-on-7 team...it’s pretty cool.”

Both games gave the high school seniors an opportunity to showcase their talents one more time with the hope of playing at the collegiate level.

“My all-star game went pretty well,” said Lorenzo. “It was a defensive battle the whole game.”

The Encinal High football team went 1-9 in the 2022 season, but their lone victory was a 19-18 victory over rival Alameda High School in the Island Bowl.

Encinal’s Marques Singleton played for the Bay team, which lost 62-14 to the Valley.
