Flag Football League Kicks Off Registration for Boys and Girls

The East Bay’s newest (and one of the only) flag football league, the East Bay Flag Football youth league, has announced registration is open for their spring season. Boys and girls ages 7 through 15 in the East Bay can participate in games and practices taking place at Piedmont High School on Sunday afternoons from April 27 through June 22.

Joining the league costs $185, or there is a $135 early-bird rate through the end of February, or until registration fills. Proceeds benefit Children’s Hospital Oakland and BayKids. Each player receives a jersey and membership in USA Football. To register, visit www.eastbayflag.com.

Players take part in a fast-paced, fun filled game of 5-on-5 flag football where every player is eligible to receive the ball known as NFL Flag. There is no contact and no blocking. NFL Flag is played in over 1,000 leagues across the country.

The East Bay Flag Football league emphasizes good sportsmanship, skill-building and fun in four co-ed divisions divided by age. Players may enter individually or as entire teams. Kids who want to play together to enter as a team and train for the NFL Flag Regional Tournament are encouraged.

The NFL Flag Regional Tournament held each fall takes place at the Oakland Raiders practice facility here in Alameda.

Last year’s tournament on Nov. 10 saw winning teams from each age bracket advance to the NFL Flag National Championships taking place this Saturday, Feb. 8, in Arlington, Tex. The tournament featured players from local teams along with squads from Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
