First-Ever Mastick Senior Prom

First-Ever Mastick Senior Prom

Alameda Family Services Senior Connections Case Management will host its first-ever Senior Prom Fundraiser Sunday, June 11, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The fundraiser will support the Senior Connections Program (SCP) which provides clinical case management services for older adults.

SCP works in conjunction with Mastick Senior Center, 1155 Santa Clara Ave., the host for the fundraiser, to serve vulnerable and isolated seniors 50 and older.

“When we opened the Family Support Center in 2012, seniors were the majority of clients who came through the doors,” stated Mari Barnes, Family Support Services Director, Alameda Family Services. “After determining that no other agency in the City of Alameda was meeting this need, we received funding through the Mastick Senior Center Advisory Board to provide services onsite.”

The number of clients has increased to the point that there is now a waiting list for SCP’s services. A case manager provides education on basic needs and stability resources to seniors in the program and works with community partners to identify seniors at risk. Homelessness, elder abuse, substance abuse, mental health crisis, and those medically fragile can receive individual case management services.

The SCP staff and Mastick Senior Center host a quarterly Senior Service Action Team Meeting that brings together providers who work with Alameda seniors. These meeting provide opportunities to network, present and discuss current and upcoming services and discuss the unique challenges seniors face locally.

The fundraiser will honor seniors in the community and feature live music, dancing, light refreshments and fun for people of all ages. Tickets cost $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
