Firefighters Rescue Driver from Lagoon
On Monday morning, members of the Alameda Fire Department (AFD) rescued a man from the water near the 1000 block of West Tower Avenue, according to reports.
At 3 a.m., an Alameda police officer was responding to a call for service of an in-progress theft at Alameda Point when they observed a vehicle leaving the area with its lights off. Moments later, the officer observed the driver lose control of the vehicle and enter the water near Seaplane Lagoon.
Rescue swimmers were deployed and rescued a male victim from the water. The victim was found unconscious and not breathing. Firefighters provided advanced life saving measures and transported the patient to a local trauma center. The status of the victim is unknown.
The AFD sub-surface Dive Rescue Team also entered the water to search for the potential of additional victims in the water. Following an extensive underwater search by the dive rescue team, no additional victims were located.
