Fire Guts Clement Ave. Upholstery Business
Just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 21, all 25 on-duty Alameda firefighters responded to an alarm sounding at Foss Upholstery & Restoration at 2318 Clement Ave. They arrived on scene to find smoke and fire coming from the building, according to an Alameda Fire Department (AFD) press release.
The firefighters forced their way inside the building and attacked the fire. They cut holes in the roof to ventilate the structure. Firefighters extinguished the blaze just after 9:30 p.m.
The fire severely damaged the business along with several of the company’s vehicles. No one was inside the building when the fire broke out, and no one was injured. Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire. The Oakland Fire Department provided mutual aid, covering Alameda’s vacant fire stations.
Other assisting agencies included the Alameda Police Department, Alameda Municipal Power and the cities Building Department. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. also responded to the fire, AFD stated in a press release.
