Film Maker to Speak at Free Screening in Theater

Documentary filmmaker Jason Cohen will visit Alameda Theatre & Cineplex Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. to screen and discuss his powerful short film "Facing Fear."

The movie follows the story of Matthew Boger and Tim Zaal, perhaps the world’s most unlikely pair of friends because 30 years ago, when Boger was a young gay man living on the streets of Los Angeles, Zaal was part of a mob of skinheads who nearly beat him to death.

Boger and Zaal will also be in attendance at the upcoming screening to discuss their "moment of hate and lifetime of forgiveness."

The film won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject for 2013. The screening is free and open to the public.

Alameda Theatre is located at 2317 Central Ave. Call 769-3456 or visit www.alamedatheatres.com for more information. Find out more about "Facing Fear" at www.facingfearmovie.com.
