Fernside to Hold Block Party for National Night Out
The first-ever block party in association with National Night Out will be held in the Fernside District on Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. The party will take place on Northwood Drive at the large intersection with Lincoln Avenue.
The event is hosted by the Fernside Home Owners Association (FHOA) comprising more than 500 households. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.
During the two-hour event attendees can learn about community programs such as Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and Map Your Neighborhood (both sponsored by the Alameda Fire Department) and the up-coming Dog Walk Watcher program sponsored by the Alameda Police Department.
Visitors can meet the neighbors, local Alameda police officers, enjoy light refreshments provided by FHOA and receive a coupon from the Alameda-owned café, The Local on Park Street.
