Falcons Soar to Tournament Victory

The Alameda Soccer Club boys’ Under-16 team the Alameda Falcons took first place at the San Ramon Fall Shootout Sept. 29.

The tournament started with two round-robin competitions on Sept. 28. The Falcons played in Bracket B with the Ballistic United Soccer Club of Pleasanton and the San Ramon Fire Football Club. The Falcons’ match against Ballistic United ended in a 2-2 tie. Their match against the Fire ended in a 1-1 tie. The Falcons won the Bracket B round-robin tournament even though they tied in both games because they scored the most goals of the three teams with three goals.

The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) United East Bay Sapphire of Martinez team won Bracket A with a 2-0 record. They beat the Piedmont Earthquakes, 5-2, and the San Ramon Impact Football Club, 2-1. The Earthquakes advanced to the semifinals after defeating the Impact, 3-1.

The Falcons defeated the Earthquakes, 2-1, to advance to the final. They took on Bracket B foe Ballistic United in the final. 

After 60 minutes of play, two overtime periods and several close chances the score remained tied at 0-0. The Falcons scored four of their penalties to win the championship by a final score of 4-2.

The Alameda Falcons are coached by Ryan O’Costa. The tournament was played at Central Park and Athan Downs Park soccer fields in San Ramon.
