Extravaganza of Bands Turns 20

File photo &nbsp&nbsp The annual Encinal Extravaganza of Bands will be held Saturday, May 19. West End residents should be prepared for road closures and detours that day from 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. while marching bands compete.

Extravaganza of Bands Turns 20

The Encinal High School (EHS) Extravaganza of Bands, the annual parade marching band competition, will be held for the 20th year on Saturday, May 19. The event happens in the EHS Gymnasium and on city streets on the West End from 8 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. An expected 16 marching bands from around the region and more than 2,500 student musicians, drum majors and their parents will be participating.

The parade competition begins at 10:15 a.m. at the corner of Third Street and Pacific Avenue. EHS will march first. The concert band competition takes place in the gym starting at 8 a.m. The public is invited to view the competitions and admission is free. An awards ceremony will take place at 3:15 p.m. at the EHS football field. More than 60 trophies will be presented.

Motorists be advised, West End streets will be closed for this event from approximately 9 a.m. to noon.
