Even the Ancestors are Distancing

Alamedans residing on Sherman Street at San Antonio Avenue have an extensive display celebrating Dio de Los Muertos or “The Day of the Dead.” The traditional Mexican celebration of relatives who have passed will be celebrated Oct. 31 to Nov. 2. It appears even at the dead’s La Escuelita “The Little School” students are wearing masks and practicing social distancing while likely communicating with their teachers via Zoom on their laptops. This year Halloween trick-or-treating has been discouraged to reduce the spread of disease so decorations have become the Island’s primary way of celebrating the spooky season coming up.
