Encinal Yearbook Recognized for Second Straight Year

For the second year in a row, Encinal Jr/Sr High School’s (EHS) yearbook, “Horizon” earned design recognition from Jostens, its yearbook publisher.

The table of contents spread from the 2022 yearbook was featured in the Jostens Look Book 2023. The spread was designed by then EHS students Gia Ledesma and Zeno Zacks. The Look Book is a collection of yearbooks with a variety of creative themes, cool covers, beautiful designs, relevant coverage of school events, meaningful storytelling and stunning photography. Just 479 schools were featured out of the more than 1,000 entries.

“It feels super rewarding,” said current Horizon co-editor-in-chief Gabby Benaquista. “It was my first year in yearbook last year and I just remember being so motivated by everyone because of how much hard work I saw that was being put into it. So that being said, I’m so glad that not only did last year’s book come out looking awesome but it also is nationally recognized, which makes the work all the more memorable. It’s definitely set the bar high for upcoming years.”

Last year, EHS 2021 yearbook, Horizon, and Encinal Junior High School’s yearbook, The Sunset, was recognized for excellence in the 2022 Jostens Look Book, celebrating the best of the best in yearbook design and inclusivity (“https://alamedasun.com/news/encinal-yearbooks-win-national-award,” April 28, 2022).

The 2023 Look Book had a press run of 11,000.
