On May 20, Encinal Junior High School’s sixth and seventh grade co-ed volleyball team won the Div. II championship over the Lincoln Lions. Although undermatched, the Jets won in two straight sets.

“Mr. Chen and I took every kid that came out in an effort to rebuild the program after a two-year layoff,” said Encinal coach Amy Dellefield. “My D2 team was sixth and seventh graders who had never played competitively before this spring.”

Despite their inexperience, the Jets went 5-0 during the season, earning them the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

“It was a real testimony to the hard work these kids put in at our practices two to three times a week,” added Dellefield. “In the end it was their teamwork that won matches for us.”
