Elks Lodge Honors Veterans

Alameda Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler Shirley Bierman and her husband, Ric, await the arrival of guests at last Friday evening’s Veterans Day Dinner at the Elks Lodge. As part of a long-standing tradition the Elks honor the military each year on Veterans Day.

Retired Marine Lt. Col. Nick Pereira, a member of the lodge, acts as the master of ceremonies each year. This year the lodge honored Marine Corps Cpl. Jordan Borden, an Iraqi War veteran who suffered serious injuries in a truck accident earlier this year. Alameda Elks gave Borden’s family $2,000 from its veterans fund to help while Borden recovered.
