Elks Fete State Champs
The Alameda Elks Lodge feted St. Joseph Notre Dame High School basketball team last Sunday. The team won the California Interscholastic Foundation (CIF) Division V state championship on March 24, beating St. Bernard Playa-Del Rey to take the school’s sixth state crown. The win also marked Coach Don Lippi’s 800th career win. Lippi is the ninth coach in state history to reach 800 career wins. He is the only coach to reach the milestone in a state championship game. After enjoying breakfast, the team and cheerleaders gathered with coach Lippi, assistant coach Eddie McBride and the lodge’s Exalted Ruler Shirley Bierman.
