From the Desk of the Executive Director & More
A lot is happening on the West End this summer, so please mark your calendars now!
Rotary Club of Alameda kicked off the 2018 Concerts at the Cove last Friday. Two more concerts are scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Fridays in July and August. Hundreds of visitors walked or biked to Crab Cove Visitors Center to enjoy the free family-friendly concert featuring one of the Bay Area’s best bands.
Thanks to the Long Train Runnin’, the ultimate tribute to the legendary Doobie Brothers, for their amazing performance last Friday! On July 13, the Wall of Blues will present the best of the blues with a distinctive Blues Brothers vibe. The Aug. 10 concert will showcase East Bay Mudd, a nine-piece Alameda band with a rock and soul dance beat.
The Alameda Chamber of Commerce Island Jam is set for the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, June 16 and 17, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Island Jam features carnival rides, art and crafts, international culinary favorites and live music on Webster Street from Central to Pacific avenues.
On Sunday, July 8, the City of Alameda, the West Alameda Business Association (WABA) and the Downtown Alameda Business Association are presenting the first Alameda Mini-Maker Faire at Alameda Point on Ranger Avenue, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be more than 70 “makers,” and food and refreshments. This will be a great new family event for the Island City.
For the 2nd Friday Art Walk on July 13, the West End Arts & Entertainment District (WEAED) is presenting a “West End Night Market.” Stroll Webster Street and enjoy craft vendors, music and great food!
WEAED is also coordinating the Blues, Brews & Barbecue on Sunday, Sept. 16, noon to 6 p.m. This event is for all ages, free to attend and features a great kids zone and beer garden. On the main stage will be Tia Carrol and her Awesome Blues Band, Quinn DeVeaux & the Blue Beat Review and closing with Rick Estin and the Nightcats.
WABA looks forward to all the fun at these events and will work closely with all organizations to welcome visitors to the West End.
As always, it’s a pleasure to represent and advocate for West Alameda. Throughout 2018, we will provide many opportunities to Explore West Alameda.
