Day Two of Pres. Cup

Day two of the Alameda Women’s Golf Club’s President’s Cup tournament ended the same way day one ended, with Dot Moody at the top of the leaderboard.

Moody ended the second round of the tournament on Thursday, June 19, with an eight-under 136. She has a three-stroke lead over Pamela Curtis and Judy Eng who sit at five-under 199.

Moody shot a six-under net 66 in the first round. She posted a modest two-under net 70 in the second round.

Not everything went right for Moody on day two. Unlike in round one when Moody was tied for the best round of the day, Moody finished tied for fifth place in net scores in day two of the tournament. Eng shot a net 64 in the second round giving her the distinction of best performance in day two. Eng shot a net 75 in the first round. Curtis finished second in the second round with a net 67. Combined with her net 72 in the first round she sits at net 139 with Eng.

Claire Loud and Frances Mori both shot net 69s in the second round for third place on the day. Loud posted a net 71 in the first round and is now in fourth place overall with a four-under net 140. Mori scored a net 74 in the first round. Her two-day total is net 143 for fifth place.

Diane Hughes entered the day tied for second place, but a net 78 on day two dropped her to sixth place. Veronica Chang started day two tied for first place with a net 66, but a net 88 in the second round dropped her all the way to 17th place.

Carole Evans, Ethel Lerche and Rubby Soo all dropped out of the tournament after round two. Three other players dropped out of the tournament after round one. There are now just 23 players expected to compete in the final round of the tournament.

The winner of the President’s Cup will represent AWGC in the Bay Area Tournament of Champions next year where all the net and gross champions of all the women’s clubs in the Bay Area face off to determine the “Bay Area Champions”.

The final round will take place today on the Earl Fry Course.
