Counting of Votes Nears Completion, No Change

 

The Alameda County Registrar of Voters released its 10th election update at 9:15 p.m. Nov. 17. 
The registrar’s office appears to be counting about 1,000 ballots per day. New information has tended to widen the gap in most races as it has been released.

In the race for Alameda Mayor, Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft has a lead of 1,329 votes over next closest contender Mayor Trish Spencer. Ashcraft has 41.97 percent of the vote and Spencer, 37.45 percent. There were also 181 write-ins.

In the race for Council, John Knox White is the clear front runner with 25.88 percent of the vote. He has a 1,750-vote lead over Tony Daysog who earned 22.69 percent of the vote. Daysog has 1,873 more votes than the next closest candidate, Jim Oddie who so far has tallied 19.27 percent of the vote. Behind Oddie by 504 votes, Robert Matz earned 18.17 percent of the vote. There were also 194 write-ins.

In the school board race, Mia Bonta is the clear front runner with 35.68 percent of the vote. She enjoys a 4,560-vote lead over Gary Lym, who earned 26.23 percent of the vote. Lym has a 3,338-vote lead over Anne McKereghan who has 19.32 percent of the vote. There were also 210 write-ins.

In the race for the hospital board seat, Dennis Popalardo is well ahead of Mike McMahon with 68.89 percent of the vote. He leads McMahon by 9,877 votes. There were also 281 write-ins.

In deciding whether to pass the sales tax Measure F, the Yes votes have 61.50 percent of the vote and a 7,598-vote lead over the No votes.

In deciding whether to pass the rent control Measure K, the No votes have 60.31 percent of the vote and a 6,749-vote lead over the Yes votes.

The park funding Measure FF passed overwhelmingly. The Yes votes have 86.61 percent of the vote and a 191,440-vote lead over the No votes.

These are the results available as of press time Tuesday, Nov. 20. An unknown number of ballots remains to be counted. When 100 percent of the votes are counted, the results will be certified by the registrar’s office next month.
