Maze Daiko anniversary event scheduled at Rhythmix

Maze Daiko, the musical quintet based at Alameda’s Rhythmix Cultural Works, celebrates its 10-year anniversary on Saturday, Nov. 11, with an enchanting evening concert. Maze Daiko and guests from Gamelan Sekar Jaya, the Bay Area’s premiere Balinese gamelan and dance company, will perform.

Maze Daiko creates a unique blend of musical traditions from around the world, by mixing (mazeru) Japanese taiko (daiko) with West African drums, marimbas and European violin. The concert will include repertoire favorites, new compositions and a collaborative work entitled “Island to Island.”

The members of Maze Daiko include Alameda residents Tina Blaine (aka bean) and Carolyn West. Members who reside elsewhere in the Bay Area include: Kathryn Cabunoc, Janet Koike and Elaine Fong.
