Club Hosts April ‘Ham Shoot’
Susan Logan won the Alameda Women’s Golf Club April Ham Shoot event last Thursday, April 4, with a net 66.
Logan beat Jamie Totsubo-Hamano in a tiebreaker to win the tournament. The match was played in Ham Shoot format. The Ham Shoot is a special tournament where no one knows who has won until all the scoring is done and the winner is announced. After all the scorecards are completed, the committee chooses to discard the scores from multiple holes.
Logan competed in the fifth flight among golfers with a handicap of 37 to 40. She outplayed her competition with ease. Jan Peyrot finished in second place with a net 74. Bobbie Hoepner shot a net 75 for third place in the flight. Lynette Mladinich posted a net 76 for fourth place, while Kay Choi shot a net 81 for fifth place.
Totsubo-Hamono competed in the fourth flight among golfers with a handicap of 33 to 36. Barbara Barton shot a net 69 for second place. Shirley Lee posted a net 71 for third place. Angie Vaccarezza shot a net 72 for fourth place. Janet Rhee and Sandi Kaney tied for fifth place in the flight with matching net 73s.
Cheryl Saxton won the first flight — handicap of 11 to 19 — by shooting a net 68. It was the third best net score overall in the tournament. Saxton also shot the lowest gross score of the event with an overall 83. Stephanie Bellato shot a net 73 for second place in the flight. Val Buschor shot a net 75 for third place. Peggy Miller posted a net 77 for fourth place. Lynn Kobatake and Tai Chewpanich shot net 79s in a tie for fifth place.
Claire Loud won the second flight — handicap of 20 to 27 — with a net 70. Holly Cromer posted a net 77, while Chizu Holmes shot a net 78 for third place. Bernice Herzberg shot a net 79 for fourth place in the flight.
Barbara Mickle shot a net 68 to win the third flight — handicap of 28 to 31. Jane Sullwold posted a net 71 for second place, while Sonia Kwak shot a net 72.
Forty-nine golfers competed in the event.
