Alameda Women’s Golf Club (AWGC) newcomer Hazel Willacy won the August charm after posting a net 67 at the August Charm event on Aug. 6 at the Earl Fry Course.

Willacy competed in the third flight among golfers with a handicap of 36 to 40. Ruby Soo was second in the flight and in the overall competition with a net 69. There was a drop off after the top two golfers in the flight as the next golfer, Siv Richards, shot a net 76. Vivian Kang posted a net 79 for fourth place, while Lynette Mladinich shot a net 80 for fifth place in the flight.

Judy Eng and Sonia Kwak finished tied atop the first flight — handicap of 11 to 26 — with matching net 70s. Bernice Herzberg posted a net 74 for third place. Fran Mori, Maggie Lindquist and Tai Chewpanich tied for fourth place with net 76s. Chewpanich posted the lowest gross score with an overall 87.

Yvonne Lee shot a net 71 for first place in the second flight — handicap of 27 to 35. Lee finished three strokes ahead of Bonnie Kim who shot a net 74. Louise Eilhardt shot a net 76 for third place. Liz Warner scored a net 79 to finish in fourth place. Ann Ching and Wilda More tied for fifth place with a net 80.

Lee won the closest-to-the-hole competition on the 11th hole. Her ball landed 23’ 2” from the pin. Chewpanich’s attempt landed 33’ 3” from the hole.

In an unlikely scenario, Ruby Soo and Richards tied for the win on the competition on 15th hole. Both competitors’ attempts landed 16’ 7” from the pin. Kim Sung’s shot stopped 19’ 1” from the pin.
