City Swim Meet Set for Aug. 4

Official event returns after four-year break

The City of Alameda Swim Championship is returning after a four-year hiatus. The event will take place on Friday, August 4 through Sunday, Aug. 6 at the Encinal Swim Center, 230 Central Ave.

On Aug. 4, competitions begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday races begin at 11 a.m. There will be an Alameda Aquatics Awards Ceremony on Sunday, August 6 at 4 p.m. at the O’Club, 641 West Red Line Avenue.

The City Meet is a little different than a typical USA Swimming age group meet. The event invites all Alameda Swimmers to come out and compete in a fun, relaxed environment. The event is open for men and women of all ages, but majority of the events are for people under 13. The event will include individual medley, backstroke, breaststroke, fly stroke and freestyle competitions in a variety of lengths.

All participants must be Alameda residents to participate. All swimmers except those in the novice division must have their current USS Swimming registration. Masters swimming events are held on Friday evening.

The last city swim meet took place in 2019. The event was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Alameda Swim Championships is sponsored by Alameda Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD), in cooperation with the Alameda Gators Swim Team. This meet is organized and run by dedicated volunteers, parents, coaches and friends for the sole enjoyment of their children and to foster their continued interest in swimming.

ARPD programs follow all State and County Health Protocols. For more information, visit www.teamunify.com/team/alga/page/calendar#/team-events/upcoming.
