City, School District to Host Youth Job Fair March 29
The City of Alameda and Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) will hold the seventh annual Youth Career & Job Fair on Wednesday, March 29. The job fair will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Encinal Jr. Sr. High School Gymnasium (210 Central Ave.).
During the event, which is free to all high school students in Alameda, students can apply for summer jobs, paid internships, and community service positions. Students can also discuss educational offerings with representative from the Peralta Community College District and explore vocational education opportunities.
“This event connects local and regional businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations with talented students who are eager to gain real world work experience and explore different career choices,” said Alameda Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft in a statement. “We are pleased to partner with AUSD and Supervisor Tam’s office to help students see the connection between their education and viable career paths.”
A Resume Help Desk will be available for students seeking guidance on how to format or update their resume. Students who bring a resume to the job fair will be eligible for a drawing to win a pair of special entertainment tickets made available through Alameda County Supervisor Lena Tam’s office.
The Youth Career & Job Fair is co-sponsored by Tam, the City of Alameda, AUSD, Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth, and their Families, and Alameda Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development Alliance.
“We created the Youth Career & Job Fair because we want to provide students with more opportunities to gain work experience either while they’re in high school or right after they graduate,” said AUSD Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi. “We especially want to bring more career training opportunities to our students who may not be committed to attending a four-year college right after high school. I am very excited about resuming the Career Fair again this year.”
