City Reopens Warming Shelter

City Reopens Warming Shelter

On Dec. 23, 2022, Alameda’s Winter Warming Shelter opened to the public to provide a warm place to sleep, eat dinner and breakfast, and shower.

Christ Episcopal Church, located at 1700 Santa Clara Ave., is hosting the Warming Shelter. The shelter will be open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until April 30 (showering is available on Wednesdays and Fridays).

Patrons will also be offered toiletries, clothing, and limited overnight storage during the colder winter months ahead. Guests may also bring one approved, well-behaved pet.

The Housing Consortium of the East Bay (HCEB) is operating the Warming Shelter. HCEB also operates Jack Capon Villa on Lincoln Avenue, an 18-unit affordable housing community for low-income individuals with developmental disabilities.

Christ Episcopal Church leadership and congregation are volunteering and financially contributing to the warming shelter.

However, members of the Alameda community are also asked to volunteer and contribute financially to the endeavor. If you are interested in supporting the Warming Shelter, you can purchase an item on their wish list or volunteer your time and support with meals: Warming Shelter Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/genericItemsPage/3H25HK3QYH14A.
