City to Honor Local Community Service Heroes

Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft and the City of Alameda Social Service Human Relations Board will honor the contributions of individuals, businesses, and nonprofits at the eighth annual Community Service Awards Ceremony, held virtually on Wednesday, Nov. 17, at 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the public via Zoom but requires pre-registration at www.alamedaca.gov/ Shortcut-Content/News-Media/ City-of-Alameda-Honors-Local Heroes.

The awards honor exception al Alamedans who made contributions to the community in the last year, particularly in advancing racial justice and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city received dozens of nominations for qualified individuals and organizations. The recipients of the 2021 Community Service Awards are:

• Beth Aney: Individual Community Service
• Alameda Police Reform Steering Committee: Group Community Service
• Alysse Castro: Nonprofit Board Member
• Alameda Family Services: Nonprofit Organization
• Asmita Dharia: Business Person
• Fireside Lounge: Business
• Robert and Elaine Kiewlich, Sonia Chen, Venecio Camarillo: Youth Community Service Award
