City Has Sandbag Station

City Has Sandbag Station

The city of Alameda’s Public Works Department is offering up to five free sandbags to Alameda residents to prepare for the upcoming storm season.
Residents will receive their sandbags after showing proof of residency, such as an Alameda Municipal Power bill or current driver’s license with an Alameda address. Some sandbags are already filled, although residents should be prepared to fill their own.
The sandbag station opened on Tuesday, Dec. 8, and will continue to be open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (except on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and during an actual storm from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sandbag station is located on Lexington Street just off West Tower Avenue (former Alameda Naval Air Station).
As the station will be closed during storms, residents should plan to get sandbags ahead of any expected flooding.
Any questions or comments, should be directed to the city’s Public Works Department at 747-7900 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
