Child Sick After Ingesting THC-Infused Candy at School Event

An Alameda elementary school student reported feeling ill after ingesting a THC-infused candy they received at a PTA Halloween event on Sunday, Oct. 29. The child and the child’s parents attended a “trunk or treat” event at Earhart Elementary School, according to reports.

After the child told their parents they were sick, the parents inspected the child’s candy when they discovered the tainted candy. They alerted Earhart Elementary School officials of their discovery. Five other families who attended the PTA event also found cannabis-infused fruit chews in their child’s candy bag.

Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) officials alerted the Alameda Police Department (APD) of the item. AUSD, APD and Earhart Elementary School officials opened an investigation into the incident. APD released an advisory to warn parents to inspect their child’s Halloween candy.

“Many THC-infused candies can closely resemble popular name brand sweets,” wrote APD in a statement. “This incident highlights a concern regarding the safety of our community during holiday celebrations such as Halloween.”

The child received medical attention and is back to full health.
