Lincoln Park came alive last Saturday with a celebration that recalled "Alameda 1902." Period Events & Entertainments Re-Creation Society (PEERS) showed the way to a time 112 years ago when the Oakland Estuary opened to boats and barges from San Francisco Bay to San Leandro Bay. The free picnic and dance featured Victorian- and Edwardian-era costumes and music from the band Bangers & Mash. PEERS welcomed suffragettes to the party as long as they wore their "rational" costumes. Bangers & Mash entertained those in attendance with Edwardian ballroom dance music, elegant set dances, mixers and even some sizzling ragtime.
