Celebrating Phillippine Independence

 

Araw Ng Kalayaan or “day of freedom” commemorates the Philippine Declaration of Independence from 400 years of Spanish colonial rule enacted on June 12, 1898, in Cavite, Philippines. Alameda marked the historic occasion at City Hall Saturday, June 9.

The city participated in a worldwide celebration of the 120th anniversary of Philippine Independence while Alameda adopted the theme, “Reflections on Freedom.” The mayor read a proclamation, a flag ceremony was held and the audience enjoyed Filipino folk dances, messages reflecting on Freedom today, community information tables and an array of delicious Filipino food.
