Councilman to hold office hours
On Thursday, July 3, Councilman Tony Daysog will hold office hours from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Blue Danube Coffee House at 1333 Park St. He will be available to answer questions and offer comments on city issues.
Daysog will also be available at the Alameda Farmers’ Market the following Saturday, July 5, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Contact Daysog at 747-4726 or tdaysog@alamedaca.gov.
Discount fair tickets available Sunday
Former Vice-Mayor and honorary member of the Alameda County Fair board of directors “Lil” Arnerich will be in the City Hall parking lot on Oak Street from noon to 2 p.m. this Sunday, June 22, to distribute discount tickets to the Alameda County Fair.
This marks the 14th consecutive year that Arnerich has given away these tickets, which will get holders into the fair at half the price of regular admission tickets.
The City of Alameda will be able to use $400,000 to develop policies and procedures regarding transportation at Alameda Point thanks to The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). The money comes in the form of two grants.
The first $150,000 will fund staff time needed to develop a Transportation Demand Management Plan which will help create a transit-oriented community that minimizes automobile travel and encourages the use of alternative modes of transportation.
Girls Inc. Announces Scholarship Winners
Alameda High School (AHS) junior Luna Cristales recently received a $5,000 Girls Inc. national college scholarship. National scholars are outstanding young women selected for exemplifying the Girls Inc. mission of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. This year, the Girls Inc. national organization awarded 28 high school girls scholarships for educational expenses at any accredited college or university. Cristales is the seventh national scholar at Girls Inc. of the Island City.
Alameda homeowners will see a new fee on their property tax bill effective July 1. Last week the Alameda County Waste Management Authority Board adopted a hazardous waste fee of $9.95 per year per household.
The board said that the county would use revenue from the fee to support the countywide household hazardous waste program.
