Lady Hornets basketball wins Home Invitational

Alameda High School’s girls’ basketball team reigned supreme at the Lady Hornets Invitational. On Dec. 13, the team took home the winning trophy by beating the San Ramon Valley High Wolves 46-44 in an overtime championship-game matchup.

Rally This Sunday

A rally with the theme "Black Lives Matter" will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., this Sunday, Dec. 14, in front of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Ave.

Plaque dedication

The Alameda Architectural Preservation Society (AAPS) will dedicate a plaque that depicts City Hall as it appeared when it was completed in 1896, complete with tower. City Hall is Alameda Historical Monument No. 1.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m., this Saturday, Nov. 22, in front of City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Ave. AAPS will announce the kickoff of a a comprehensive plaque program.

The plaques will honor other monuments and historic buildings and educate the public about Alameda’s historic architectural resources.

Fire Chief Announces Retirement

Alameda Fire Chief Mike D’Orazi announced that he will retire on Dec. 27. City Manager John Russo said that he will appoint Deputy Chief Doug Long as acting fire chief.

In a message to his colleagues D’Orazi thanked them for their support and assistance over the last three and one-half years he has worked as chief and during his 35-year association with the city.

"I have never been so impressed with the level of professionalism and competence shown by our management team," he said.

AMP Warns of Scam

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP) has reported that it has received multiple complaints from local businesses that someone impersonating a utility representative (either on the phone or in person) is claiming that electric accounts are past due and will be disconnected.

The individual goes on to provide payment instructions via Green Dot MoneyPaks or NetSpend prepaid debit cards.
