A special opportunity to help children in Africa receive the food, clothing and shelter they need is coming up this weekend. Trinity Lutheran Church will host an African Art and Crafts Bazaar on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church, located at 1323 Central Ave. at Morton Street. The event will be presented by the Asante Network, an all-volunteer, non-profit, fair-trade organization.

The network purchases unique, well-crafted items directly from women’s cooperatives in Tanzania and Uganda. In purchasing Asante Network crafts, Alamedans can help these women care for their children. The proceeds also go to the many HIV-AIDS orphans the Asante Network helps care for. All efforts are designed to provide dignity, hope and a better life for these women and their families.

Items available for purchase at reasonable prices include women’s and men’s clothing, girls’ dresses, jewelry, baskets, tablecloths, carvings, batik, wall hangings and more.
