The Red Rock Volleyball Alameda Club will be having open tryouts for its 2023 beach volleyball program. On March 18, members of the club will be conducting beach volleyball tryouts for girls 11-18, or fifth grade to 12th grade at the beach volleyball courts at 2051 Shore Line Drive near the Waterfront Apartments at the intersection of Shore Line and Willow Street.

The Red Rock Alameda and Moraga Beach Volleyball program provides comprehensive technical and tactical instruction in competitive beach volleyball.

The program begins late May and runs through the summer. Participants don’t need to attend all summer but are asked to make a four-week commitment. You do not need to have a partner to be part of our program, the program directors will pair players with one another if needed. You don’t need to be a Red Rock indoor volleyball player to join.

With training locations in both Alameda and Moraga, they provide a great learning environment for any player, from a college prospect to someone brand new to the sport. Players will be divided based on evaluations.

The coaching staff includes Gary Hodge, Club Director and beach coach; Eddie Chen, Club Director and beach coach; and Madelyn Lafollette, beach coach.

Chen, originally from Southern California, is currently the Red Rock East Bay Director and coach of the girls’ and boys’ indoor programs. He is also currently the varsity women’s volleyball coach at Encinal High School. He is also a Physics and Math teacher at Encinal. Prior to Encinal he was the St. Joseph Notre Dame High School coach for eight years. Lafollette played varsity volleyball for four years at Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School before playing collegiately at University of San Francisco and university of Oregon.
