Attempted Carjacker Nabbed

On Aug. 26, at approximately 6 p.m., Alameda Police Department (APD) dispatchers received a call about an attempted carjacking near the intersection of Morton Street and San Antonio Avenue.

APD officers responded to the scene and located the victim and several witnesses. Officers learned the victim was sitting in their car when a person approached and pulled them from their vehicle. While the victim was on the ground, the suspect punched the victim several times and demanded their car keys.

After failing to start the car, the suspect ran from the scene. Callers provided detailed descriptions of the suspect and noted they were last seen running down Sherman Street.

Officers canvassed the area and located an individual who matched the suspect’s description on the 1300 block of Sherman. A 15-year-old was taken into custody for attempted carjacking and elder abuse. The suspect’s name was not released because the person is a juvenile.
