APD Responds to Traffic Fatality Near Tubes

An adult male died as a result of major injuries after his vehicle crashed into a light pole on Webster Street, just outside the Webster Tube, at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1. According to the City of Alameda report, the driver does not appear to be a resident of the Bay Area.

The Alameda Fire Department (AFD) responded to the scene, extracted the driver, and transported him to a local hospital. However, the medical staff was unable to save his life, and he was pronounced deceased. The motorist, who has not been identified by APD, was alone in his vehicle when contacted by AFD personnel.

APD officers closed the Webster Tube following the crash on Thursday and again Friday morning to collect evidence. The Tube opened Friday afternoon.

At this time, the details of the crash are unknown, an investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is being released.
