APD Helps Make Christmas Brighter

Christmas morning will be that much happier in many Alameda homes thanks to “Shop with a Cop.” Shop with a Cop breaks down the barriers between the community and the police, helps families in need and builds important new friendships.

Alameda police officers who belong to the Police Officers Association paired with children from various Alameda elementary and middle schools last week to spread a little Christmas cheer. The delighted children spent a few hours roaming the aisles of Target in search of perfect holiday gifts.

APD would like to thank Target, the Alameda Police Foundation, the Alameda Unified School District, Vice-Mayor Malia Vella, Councilman Jim Oddie and the members of the Alameda Police Officers Association for their help in making Christmas special for these children.

“Kids who have good relationships with local law enforcement officers are less likely to get into trouble with the law, and more likely to seek help from police when they need it,” Target stated in a press release about “Shop with a Cop.” “Strong and safe communities are important to Target, which is why more than 100 Target stores across the county host these fun events during December.”

So, if you see them in your local Target in the aisles in years to come be sure to thank both the officer and the child for helping to make Christmas more merry for those less fortunate.
