APD Arrest Multiple Suspected DUI Drivers
Alameda Police Department (APD) patrol officers had to respond to several incidents involving suspected intoxicated drivers including two incidents involving vehicle collisions the weekend before last. According to APD, patrol officers responded to the report of a collision near the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Lea Court on Saturday, May 13. The driver was found to be driving under the influence before colliding with an unoccupied parked vehicle.
In a separate incident, an APD officer patrolling central Alameda observed a vehicle swerving in the roadway. Before the officer could initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle collided with an unoccupied vehicle parked along Chestnut Street. A passenger who was asleep in the driver’s car was safely escorted to their nearby residence.
Later that evening, an officer conducting theft suppression operation was informed by a good Samaritan about a possible intoxicated person driving in the area of Fifth Street. Officers quickly located the vehicle and, after conducting a series of standardized field sobriety tests, determined the driver was unfit to drive.
The following day on May 14, patrol officers responded to the report of another collision near Eighth Street and Central Avenue. The driver was arrested for DUI while transporting a minor. Both were unharmed. Officers remained at the scene until a guardian could safely transport the child home.
“Responsible driving is critical to the safety of our community,” said APD in a statement. “If you suspect someone is driving while intoxicated, call 9-1-1 immediately.”
