Annual City Swim Meet Coming Soon

The 62nd Annual City of Alameda Swim Championships Alameda is ready to kick off at the Encinal High School Swim Center Friday, Aug. 5, through Sunday, Aug. 7.

The swim meet will bring together some of the best youth swimmers in Alameda — all participants must be Alameda residents — to take part in a challenging and fun competition.

This event is designed for Alameda youth. Swimmers will be broken into division by age and gender. There are races for kids under six years old — a 6-and-under, 25-yard backstroke meet — and 13 and over — a 200-yard individual medley. Swimmers may enter additional events, but cannot exceed a total of three events per day. Most events will be for children, but there will be several open division meets for people of all ages. The open division 1,600-yard meet, which is open to both men and women, will kick off the three-day tournament on Friday, Aug. 5, at 5:30 p.m.

Any swimmer entered in the meet, unaccompanied by a USA Swimming member coach, must be certified by a USA Swimming member coach as being proficient in performing a racing start or must start each race from within the water.

There will be an award ceremony at the end of the three-day event on Sunday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each event. Ribbons will be awarded for fourth, fifth and sixth place. Awards will be given out in the following age groups: 8 and under, nine-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18.

To enter, participants must fill out an entry form and mail it to Alameda City Meet; 875-A Island Drive, #190; Alameda, CA 94502. The entry form must be postmarked by Monday, Aug. 1, or it will not be accepted.
