Alameda Youth Provide Goods to Food Bank

The Alameda Food Bank recently received food donations from two different youth groups to distribute to families in need during the holiday season.

First, the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department Youth Council collected a passel of turkeys for the Alameda Food Bank (AFB) last week. AFB said finding turkeys to hand out this season has been difficult, so they were extra thankful to the youth who helped out.

Next, the Lincoln Middle School Leadership Council rallied their fellow Lions and their families to collect more than four pallets of food for AFB. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this massive donation possible,” wrote AFB in a caption on their Instagram page.

AFB is always accepting food donations from the Alameda Community. They accept donations of unopened, unexpired non-perishable food items at their warehouse, 650 West Ranger Ave. at Alameda Point, on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only donate items that are in good, edible condition.

Along with holiday season food, AFB’s preferred items are:
• Cereal
• Pancake mix
• Coffee
• Tea
• Condiments (catsup, mayo, mustard, etc)
• Spices
• Soup
• Ramen
• Crackers
• International foods
• Diapers of all sizes are also helpful
