Alameda Volleyball Club Competes in Regional Event
The Alameda Red Rocks Women’s Volleyball Club 17U Ashia team began its 2022-2023 club volleyball season at the Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) 17-and-under Power League Qualifiers on Dec. 10 and 11.
The team, coached by Ashia Joseph, was placed in Pool 4 of the Odds section. Team Ashia went 2-1 in the opening round-robin section of the tournament. They began the tournament with a 2-0 (25-13, 25-9) defeat to Academy Volleyball 17HP Lukasz on Saturday, Dec. 10. However, the team from Alameda was able to bounce back with victories over Northern California Volleyball Club 17-1 Blue (25-17, 26-24) and Dynamix Volleyball Club 17 Black (25-16, 25-16).
They were then placed in Pool 1 in Round 2. The Red Rocks went 1-1 in Pool 1, losing to Vision 17 Gold, 2-0 (25-11, 25-14), but defeating Main Beach 17 National Branden, 2-0 (25-21, 25-21).
The team did not have a good showing on day two of the tournament. They started the day with a 2-0 (25-22, 25-21) loss to Academy Volleyball 17 Sterling in the Even-Odd section crossover match. They followed that by losing both their matches in Pool 5 in Round 3. First, they lost, 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-22), to Sacramento Performance 17 Adidas. They followed that with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-0) loss to San Francisco Tremors 17 Python in the second match of Pool 5.
In all, the Alameda Red Rocks 17 Ashia team finished the tournament with a 3-5 overall record and finished in 33rd place out of 39 teams. All matches were played at The Grounds sports complex in Roseville. The team will next compete in the NCVA League tournament next month.
