Alameda Swim Team Members Compete in Youth Swim Event
Four members of the Alameda Gators swim team competed at the Winter 14-and-Under Short Course Junior Olympics Dec. 1 and 2 in Moraga.
Sydney Thompson saw the most success of the four athletes at the event. Thompson placed seventh out of 10 participants in the girls’ 12-and-under 50-yard breaststroke competition. Thompson finished the race with a time of 34.49.
Thompson also competed in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke competitions, but did not pass the preliminary stage in either race. In the 100-yard breaststroke preliminary race Thompson finished 13th out of 26 participants with a time of 1:14.90. She finished 18th out of 28 participants in the 200-yard breaststroke preliminary with a time of 2:46.21. Only the top 10 swimmers in the preliminaries advance to the final stage.
Molly Boyle competed in the girls’ 14-and-under 100-yard freestyle, but did not advance past the preliminary stage. She completed her preliminary race in 47th place with a time of 1:00.49.
Zoe Kuhn competed in the girls’ 14-and-under 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle competitions. She did not make the final cut in either race. Kuhn finished 31st out of 49 participants in the 50-yard freestyle preliminary with a time of 26.49. In the 100-yard freestyle preliminary, Kuhn finished 23rd out of 47 participants with a time of 57.10.
Devin Hou competed in the boys’ 14-and-under 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle competitions. Hou did not make it out of the preliminary race in either competitions. In the 50-yard preliminary, Hou finished 24th out of 27 swimmers with a time of 24.74. He finished 23rd out of 28 swimmers in the 100-yard preliminary with a time of 53.57.
