Alameda Soccer Club Teams Compete at Stanford Tourney
Multiple Alameda Soccer Club (ASC) Islander teams competed in the Stanford Summer Classic Division 1 event on Aug. 5 and 6, in Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
ASC Islanders men’s 06-05 Red men’s team
The ASC men’s 06-05 Red men’s team competed in the men’s U19 competition at the event. They went 1-2 to finish in third place out of four teams. They lost their first match of the tournament, 4-2, to the Santa Rosa Empire Soccer Club 06 men’s team on Saturday, Aug. 5.
Later that day they rebounded from the loss with a 2-0 victory over the Livermore Fusion Soccer Club 06/07 squad. In the semifinal on Sunday, the team was no match for the Mustang Soccer Club 05/06 Elite team of Danville. The Mustangs routed the Islanders, 5-0.
ASC Islanders 09 Red women’s team
The ASC Islanders 09 Red women’s team went 1-1-2 in the women’s U15 Gold division tournament. The team finished tied for fifth place out of seven teams.
The Islanders began the tournament with a 0-0 tie against the Monterey County Soccer-ECFC Salinas 09 women’s team. They lost, 3-0, to the Mustang 09 Elite women’s team in their second match of Saturday. The loss eliminated them from the title contention.
In the fourth game qualifier match, the Islanders defeated the Stanford Strikers, 1-0, on Sunday. Their last match of the tournament ended like their first match, with a 0-0 tie to the West Coast Soccer Wolfpack 09 women’s team of Tracy.
ASC Islanders 08 Red women’s team
The ASC Islanders 08 Red women’s team went 1-2 in the women’s U16 Silver division tournament. They finished fifth out of six teams in the competition. The squad started the tournament with an impressive 4-0 victory over Mendocino County Soccer Academy 08-10 women’s team on Saturday.
The victory elation was short-lived as they fell, 3-0, to the North Coast Fútbol Club 08 Red women’s team of Petaluma. The next day, the Islanders lost, 3-0, to the American River FC Freedom Red women’s team in their final match of the tournament.
Tournament matches were played at multiple fields throughout Palo Alto and Menlo Park.
