Alameda Police Escort Special Olympics Torch

On June 22, members of the Alameda Police Department (APD) participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run. After receiving the torch from the California Highway Patrol and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, APD escorted the Flame of Hope to the San Leandro Police Department. Members of APD jogged with the torch through the streets of Alameda including Central and Lincoln avenues.

The Torch Run is a fundraising effort to support Special Olympics of Northern California (SONC). APD surpassed its goal of $1,500 and will send a $1,605 donation to SONC. The funds will be used to help cover the costs for 14 Special Olympic athletes for a complete sports season.
