Alameda High Student Wins Oakland Athletics Scholarship

Alameda High School (AHS) student Kristen Wong was named the 2022 Oakland A’s Bay Area All-Star Scholarship recipient. The Oakland A’s held a small ceremony in front of the Alameda High campus to celebrate her selection for the scholarship on March 11.

Wong received $5,000 to go toward her college expenses. Wong is involved in many extracurricular activities. She is a community member at the All Good Living Foundation, which provides assistance to vulnerable children of the Bay Area in need; AHS’ UNICEF Club President and more. Wong is also director of communications for the Alameda Economic & Chamber Alliance.

Wong also has an extensive volunteer list. She was a junior coach for the Girls on the Run program, where she coached elementary school girls in a 5K.

Wong was also part of the two Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) committees. First, she was co-chair of the Asian & Pacific Islander Round Table. Her responsibilities include serving as a liaison between AUSD and the Asian & Pacific Islander to support Asian and Pacific Islander students. She is also a part of the AUSD Homework Group, where she conducted surveys and gathered other data regarding the district’s homework policy.

Wong aspires to be a women’s healthcare professional, according to her LinkedIn page.

The Bay Area All-Star Scholarship Team (BAASST) is a partnership established in 1996 by the Oakland Athletics, Golden State Warriors, San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants, San Jose Earthquakes and San Jose Sharks. Each team honors a student during a special pre-game presentation at their individual venues. Recipients had to attend an Alameda County public high school.
