Alameda Bros Win Silver at Triathlon Meet

Lucian, 10, and Silas Nelson, six, both Edison Elementary students, participated in the Donner Lake Kids Triathlon on Saturday, July 23 at Donner Lake in Truckee, Ca. Both brothers came in 2nd place in their age bracket.

For the six-and-under age group, the participants completed a 25-meter swim, 1K bike ride, and 500-meter run. For the nine- to 10-year-old age group, the kids completed a 100-meter swim, 3K bicycle ride, and 1K run. Silas finished with a time of 11:12, while Lucian finished the distance with a time of 17:44.

Silas finished the swim portion in 1:32, the bicycle portion in 4:07 and the run portion in 4:08. Lucian finished the swim portion of the race in 2:22, the bicycle segment in 6:58, and the run segment in 6:26.

Alamedan Jacky Hayward, 39, finished the Sprint Triathlon race in the event. The sprint swim course is one-fourth a mile, the bicycle course is six miles and the sprint run course is two miles.

Hayward finished with a time of 59:52 for 83rd place overall out of 149 participants. Hayward’s time put her third out of six participants in the women’s 35- to 39-year-old division.
