Alameda Baseball 13U Team Wins Halloween Havoc Championship

The Alameda 13U Neptune Beach Pearl baseball team won the Bay Area Fremont National Championship Sports Halloween Havoc tournament on the weekend of Oct. 29-30 with a perfect 4-0 record.

The team ranked first after the first day of pool play, without losing a single game.

The team was rewarded with a first-round bye in Sunday’s single-elimination bracket to decide the champion. In the semi-final game, with William Su on the mound, Neptune Beach Pearl shut out Benicia Wolfpack, 13-0. The southpaw had all the right stuff on Sunday, going four innings, allowing just four hits, while striking out one batter and walking zero. At the plate, the Pearl used a seven-run fourth inning to put the game away. The big bats in the inning were led by a walk by Xander Chooey-Chea, a double by Ezra Flanagan, and an inside-the-park walk-off grand slam by Su that enacted the mercy rule.

Later that day in the championship game, the Alameda team scored six runs in the second inning on their way to an 11-3 victory over the Campbell Sandlot. The Pearl’s offense in the inning came from fielder’s choices by Zachary Davis and Dominic Dollar, a walk by Gavin Cerda-Zein, and a double by Flanagan. Cedar-Zein led things off on the pitcher’s mound. The righthander allowed seven hits and three runs over five innings. He struck out three batters and did not walk a single batter. Chase Diamond closed the game, allowing zero hits and zero runs in the final inning. The Pearl stole six bases in the championship game. Dominic Dollar led the way with two stolen bases.

In the pool play stage, the Neptune Beach Pearl defeated the College Park Knights, 14-4, and the Campbell Sandlot, 4-1, on Saturday. All games were played at the Fremont Sports Complex.
