Alameda Athletes Named to All-League Teams

Alameda Athletes Named to All-League Teams

Multiple Alameda high school athletes were named to West Alameda County Conference (WACC) All-League teams for the 2022-2023 winter season.

Men’s Basketball
Alameda High School (AHS) senior guard Gabe Garcia was named to the WACC Foothill League men’s basketball all-league first team. Fellow Hornet Jackson Yep, a junior, was also named to the Foothill League first team. AHS sophomore small forward Zion Moore and St. Joseph Notre Dame (SJND) junior power forward Gabriel Enyinwa were named to the Foothill League second team. Hornet junior Jacob Hodges was named honorable mention.

Encinal High School (EHS) senior point guard Omar Babikir was named to the WACC Shoreline League men’s basketball first team. Fellow EHS senior Diego Cerna was selected to the second team, while teammate Theo Coker was named honorable mention.

Women’s Basketball
AHS sophomore Juliana Johnson made the WACC Foothill League women’s basketball all-league first team. Hornet junior Malani Mastora was selected to the Shoreline League second team. Fellow Hornets Jennalyn Apodaca and Gloria Seidl were named Shoreline League honorable mention.

EHS sophomore forward Jazzy Alcantar was named WACC Shoreline League Co-Player of the Year. She was also named to the Shoreline League women’s basketball all-league first team with her teammates Alanah Leota and Kaianna Rayndles. Encinal teammates Surina Castro and Lola Whalen were selected to the Shoreline League second team.

SJND players Isabella Corral and Amber Cox were honorable mentions.

Men’s Soccer
AHS senior Caleb Garza was one of three Hornets named to the WACC Shoreline League men’s soccer all-league first team. His teammates Hamza Kannoune and Chandler Lau were also selected to the Shoreline League first team. EHS senior Sorel Richardson was also named to the Shoreline League first team.

Alameda and Encinal men’s soccer players are well represented on the second team. Hornet players Jackson Babbit, Daniel Pell and Natan Welday all made the Shoreline League second team. Jet teammates Viktor Biczynski and Kiebron Russom also made the second team.

Encinal players Harold Albadani and Trevor Marsh and Alameda players Yumei Fong and Joaquin Mitchell were honorable mentions.

Women’s Soccer
EHS junior goalkeeper Lla Cantrell and senior forward Angie St. Denis both made the WACC Shoreline League women’s soccer all-league first team. The Encinal pair were matched by a pair from AHS who also made the first team. AHS sophomore midfielder Reese Griffith and senior defender Gabby Soderlund also made the first team.

AHS senior midfielder Isabella Bazo was one of three Hornet seniors to make the Shoreline League second team. Defender Lily Johnson and goalkeeper Lauren Stockton both made the second team. EHS junior midfielder Catie Price also made the second team.

AHS players Ava Baptista and Katie Stockton and EHS players Malia Layag and Alison Jensen were honorable mentions.

The WACC all-league teams are selected by the head coaches in each league.
