Ala-Gators Swim at Orinda Meet

Several members of the Alameda Gators swim team competed in the Orinda Aquatics Meet on Feb. 8.

Boys’ competitions
Devin Hou, 15, had five top-15 finishes at the meet. His best performance came in the boys’ 13- to 18-year-old 200-yard butterfly competition. He finished fifth out of 25 participants with a time of 2:07.59. He also finished seventh out of 64 swimmers in the boys’ 13- to 18-year-old 100-yard butterfly competition. He finished with a time of 57.27. His Gator teammate Miles Soohoo, 16, finished 45th with a time 1:07.77. Fellow Gator Ian Fong, 13, came in 53rd place with a time of 1:12.26.

Hou finished ninth overall in the boys’ 13- to 18-year-old 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley competitions. He completed the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.47. Thanh Nguyen-Trong finished 18th in the same competition out of 62 participants. Nguyen-Trong, 14, clocked in at a time of 109.78. Soohoo finished 38th with a time of 1:17.16. Hou completed the 200-yard IM meet with a time of 2:08.08. Soohoo finished 43rd with a time of 2:25.33. Fong came in 53rd place with a time of 2:35.14. Sixty-seven athletes participated in the meet.

Lastly, Hou finished 14th out of 77 athletes in the boys’ 13- to 18-year-old 50-yard freestyle competition. He swam the distance in 23.99. Soohoo finished 49th with a time of 26.82. Gator teammate Tommy Chen, 13, came in 64th place at 28.07. 

Alameda Gator Aaron Cramer finished sixth out of 15 participants in the boys’ eight-and-under 25-yard freestyle competition. Cramer, 7, finished the race with a time of 20.09. His Gator teammate Kyle Kim finished 13th with a time of 26.44. 

Leo Patakas, 8, finished fifth out of 14 participants in the boys’ eight-and-under 25-yard breaststroke competition with a time of 27.28. Cramer finished sixth in the competition with a time of 30.37.

Girls’ competition
Rebecca Stelmach finished 15th out of 45 swimmers in the girls’ 13- to 18-year-old 200-yard breaststroke competition. Stelmach, 13, finished with a time of 2:46.37. Her teammate Annabel Fiero, 15, finished 28th overall with a time of 2:57.33.

Kylie Zorn finished 18th out of 56th participants in the girls’ 11- to 12-year-old 100-yard breaststroke competition. Zorn, 11, finished with a time of 1:24.89. Kiely Wong, 11, finished 20th in the same competition with a time of 1:26.54. Gators Janessa Lee, Ninjin Bayasgalan and Victoria Baatartsogt finished 38th, 39th and 40th, respectively, in the same race. Lee, 12, finished with a time of 1:39.01, Bayasgalan, 11, finished with a time of 1:39.62. Baatartsogt, 11, finished with a time of 1:40.29.

Wong and Zorn finished 26th and 27th, respectively, in the girls’ 11- to 12-year-old 100-yard individual medley. Wong finished with a time of 1:16.65, while Zorn came in at 1:17.00. Fellow Gator Baatartsogt finished 42nd in the same competition with a time of 1:23.80. Seventy-six athletes competed in the race.

Hanna Hosmer, 10, finished 10th out of 72 participants in the girls’ 10-and-under 100-yard individual medley. She finished with a time of 1:25.01.
